The Wrestler
I went to see The Wrestler this week. Although it veered dangerously close to cliche throughout (washed-up athlete makes a comeback, stripper with a heart of gold, daughter with Daddy issues), I still enjoyed it. The scenes in the supermarket were particularly moving for me because they were shot in my supermarket (I even recognized one of the deli ladies in one scene). The only downside is that I may never be able to buy cold cuts or cereal again after having been traumatized by this movie.

the big dude in that scene sits across from me.
...has good stories on the outtakes.
Which big dude? The guy who recognizes him? The guy who shies away from him when he abuses the cereal aisle? Feel free to share.
"Sweet Child O' Mine" was an atypically poignant choice of wrestling entrance music. Maybe mine could be "Atmosphere" by Joy Division.
Yeah, and the funny thing was the credits ended with a big thank you to Axl. The producers must have really had to kiss his ass to get that song.
Mickey told Letterman that he asked Bruce to write a song for the movie. Any good?
Mickey Rourke fits into my theory that some actors have to fade for a lookalike or similar type to rise. Mickey disappeared and Bruce Willis took his place. James Dean died and Martin Sheen appeared. Fatty Arbuckle...Oliver Hardy.
Then Mickey and Bruce made a picture together and it ruined my theory.
The song is fine, Brian, but nowhere near as great as Streets of Philadelphia.
while I have not seen the movie, deli work can be gruesome business,Mike...slapping around the salami... slicing up the head cheese, what have you...
as great as streets of philadelphia? I didn't know that was a great song. I thought that song was so forced. that movie was good but a downer...not going to do a lot for northern new jersey tourism.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, Rambler. I think SoP is a great song and The Wrestler is a good song. SoP had a unique sound for a Springsteen song, whereas The Wrestler sounds like a lot of his recent dirges.
What supermarket was this filmed at?
The Acme in Bayonne (54th and Broadway).
