John Adams

I'm enjoying the series on HBO, but the over-busy camera work can be quite annoying. Do directors just assume all viewers have some form of attention deficit disorder now and that whenever you have characters talking you have to create all sorts of odd angles (behind a trellis, from the bottom of a stairwell, etc.) to keep people watching? Half the scenes look like they were shot on a rocking boat. It's been so bad, at times, I thought the director might be paying some sort of strange homage to the old Batman series.

Wait, are they shooting John Adams sideways? I read somewhere they try to match the camera movements to the story and that if it's done right the average viewer would not be aware of, or distracted by camera movements or angles because he would be drawn into the story. I guess worse when the supporting actor steals the show. George Washington.MMMMmmmmm.....

Paul Giamotti, who seems so lovable in this role would have been a great bad guy in one of those batman episodes. I think he does the voice of the evil Dr.Satan in Superbeasto or something like that.

Aw...some review said he looks like Shrek. Now he's my fave.

Couple things re historic drama: you have to avoid the CHARIOTS OF FIRE anachronism and not use electronic instruments in the score. Done. Plenty of fifes and drums. But the handheld camera shooting from the floor and through the slats of a chair? This distracts because the handheld camera wasn't invented yet. The actors must have felt like Muppet guest stars struggling not to look down at the puppeteers on the floor. There was a left to right quick and needless pan that went so far to the right that Adams disappeared from the frame on the left on my non-widescreen TV. That's just sloppy.

I think it's the best thing I've seen on TV. I got HBO for the first time since Chris Rock went off and will probably cancel it when ADAMS is over. I'm stunned that HBO is still running GALAXY QUEST (another great movie).

I read the book too. Adams in the book thinks a lot less of Franklin than the movie shows.

The two leads are two of my favorite actors. 1 On the Town will expand on ADAMS this week.

UGH! I loathe the rocking camera routine! What gives?

Paul Giamatti strikes a compelling pose on the posters at the post office.

Could a commemorative John Adams stamp be far behind?

Why on earth would the USPS allow HBO to advertise in its hallowed halls?

Anyone?
